Veteran actor Kalpana passed away a couple of years ago following a massive heart attack. Her untimely demise left her fans devastated and the film industry lost one of its finest artistes, one who could do both comedy as well as character roles with ease and élan.

For quite a while now, there have been reports of Kalpana’s daughter following in the footsteps of her mother and aunts, Kalaranjani and Urvashi, by donning the greasepaint. Well, it seems the news is true!

Kalpana’s daughter Sreesankhya, who had been looking for the right launchpad, will be making her acting debut with the Malayalam movie Kunjiyammayum Anjumakkalum. Touted to be a complete comedy entertainer, the film also has Irshad, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Pashanam Shaji, Sreejith Ravi and Binu Pappu in the star cast. The film will be helmed by director Sumesh Lal and bankrolled by Abdul Rasheed Abra under the banner Abra Movies.

Kalpana was a versatile actor, having acted in various languages including Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu. She won several awards in her long career and shared screen space with almost all the leading heroes across the film industries she worked in. Some of the awards she had won include the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for the film Thanichalla Njan in 2013 and the Asianet Film Awards for Best Supporting Actress for the film Charlie (which was awarded posthumously) in 2016. She also won the Henko Flowers Indian Film Awards for Best Supporting Actress and the North American Film Award for Best Supporting Actress, both for Charlie (posthumously awarded) as well.

Here’s wishing that young Sreesankhya wins a place in the hearts of movies buffs with her performances, just as her mother and aunts did.
