Kalidas Jayaram’s Happy Sardar would be releasing next month. Actor Unni Mukundan, who has once played a Sardar for a movie called Mallu Singh, posted on his social media page about his excitement for Kalidas’s film. He wrote, “Pure nostalgia for me! Seeing a Mallu Sardar on screen once again!! Best wishes to Kalidas Jayaram And team Happy Sardar!!”

Kalidas will be playing the title role in this movie that will also have the Bollywood actor Javed Jaffrey in an important role. This is not the first time Javed is acting in a Malayalam film – he has earlier played a Pakistani soldier in the film Picket 43.

According to reports, Happy Sardar is a film of a Sardar youth falling in love with a woman belonging to the Knanaya community. Touted to be a romantic tale, it will be laced with humor throughout, we hear. Happy Sardar is written and directed by the husband and wife duo Sudeep Joshy and Geethika. The film has Siddique, Sreenath Bhasi, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Shanti Krishna and Balu Varghese playing supporting roles.

It may be noted here that Kalidas has a number of films this year. He has inked a deal to do a film with noted director Alphonse Puthren. The film will be in Tamil. Alphonse has last directed the film Premam in Malayalam four years ago, which has been well-received.

Kalidas also has a film with ace cinematographer and director Santosh Sivan titled Jack and Jill and the Jayaraj directorial Backpack.

Jack and Jill, touted to be a thriller, has Manju Warrier and Kalidas in the lead. The film will also have Aju Varghese, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Ramesh Pisharody in the cast. Meanwhile, the shooting of Backpack is in progress in Vagamon and Varkala in Kerala. Actor Karthika will make her debut with in this film. Renji Panicker will be seen in a pivotal role. Sachin Sanker has been signed up to compose the tunes.
