Rajinikanth’s Kaala, which is predominantly set and shot in Mumbai, could be the 67-year old star’s biggest release in Hindi in a long time. Even though the film is being dubbed in Hindi, its makers still want a wide release considering the film’s pan-Indian star cast. Actors such as Nana Patekar, Huma Qureshi, Anjali Patil and Sanjay Tripathi are names that are sure to attract non-Tamil audiences outside Tamil Nadu. If the industry grapevine is anything to go by, Kaala could release in around 500 screens.

The first single track Titled Semma Weightu, was released on Tuesday. The song has been sung and composed by Santhosh Narayanan and Hariharasudhan. While the lyrics and rap verses are by Arunraja Kamaraj, Dopeadelicz and Logan. The full music album of Kaala will release on May 9 at a gala event in Chennai.

In Kaala, Rajinikanth plays a slum lord turned gangster. The film has been directed by Pa. Ranjith and it’s his second time collaboration with the superstar after Kabali. The film is believed to revolve around the lives of oppressed Tamils in Mumbai and their fight for equality. Produced by Dhanush, the film also stars Nana Patekar, Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, Huma Qureshi and Samuthirakani in pivotal roles.

Shankar’s 2.0, a sequel to Enthiran, was supposed to originally hit the screens on April 27. The release of the magnum opus rumoured to be made on a lavish budget of Rs. 450 crore has been deferred multiple times owing to high VFX work. If everything goes as planned, 2.0 could hit the screens for Pongal 2019.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is expected to commence work on his next film with Karthik Subbaraj from July onwards. Sun Pictures is bankrolling the project on a lavish budget. Anirudh Ravichander has already been finalised to compose music. The rest of the cast and crew will be finalised soon.
