Director Radha Mohan’s Mozhi starring Jyothika in the lead role along with Prakash Raj and Prithviraj was one of the best films in Jyothika’s career. Jo went on to win several prestigious awards for her performance in it including the Tamil State Film Award for Best Actress. She played a hearing and speech impaired person in the film and has no dialogues. However, she conveyed her emotions so beautifully which won her accolades from all quarters.

Kaatrin Mozhi will have Jyothika in a completely opposite avatar. She will be playing a highly talkative person in the film. Speaking about the project, the film’s director Radha Mohan said that it was completely Jo’s idea to remake the Hindi movie Tumhari Sulu in Tamil as Kaatrin Mozhi. “One day, Jyothika called me up, asked me if I had watched the Hindi film Tumhari Sulu, and suggested that I should remake it. I watched the film and felt the same way. That’s how it started,” he said.

When she contacted him over the phone about remaking the film, he hadn’t seen Tumhari Sulu. But later when he watched the film, Radha Mohan was confident that Jo would be the right choice to play the role. The entire scripting was done before the commencement of the shooting and the actors were given the dialogues and script a day before the shooting. The film’s progress has been good and it is scheduled to release on October 18, which will mark Jo’s birthday.

Director Radha Mohan also thanked BOFTA Dhananjayan for ensuring Kaatrin Mozhi took shape. He also added that the film will not be an exact copy of Tumhari Sulu as several changes have been made. It will be an all-new experience for the audiences to watch Jo on the silver screen in this flick, he had said.

Produced by Dhananjayan Govind’s BOFTA Media Works, in association with Creative Entertainers, actor Simbu will seen in an interesting cameo in the film and he will be seen as himself, an actor in the film as that of Ayushmann Khuranna in the original film. The film also stars Vidhaarth, Lakshmi Manchu and Kumaravel  in crucial roles. While Vidhaarth will be seen playing Jyothika’s husband and will reprise Manav Kaul’s role in the remake, Lakshmi will reprise Neha Dhupia’s role from the original.

National award-winning editor KL Praveen and cinematographer Mahesh Muthusamy have been roped in for the remake. While the film marks the debut of AR Rahman’s nephew AH Kaashif as a composer, he has composed several independent music albums.
