The first teaser from Rajinikanth-starrer Kaala will be out on March 1, its makers have announced.
Actor and producer Dhanush, under whose banner Wunderbar Films the film is being made, took to Twitter to make the announcement.
The teaser will be released by Wunderbar Studios, the record label and online video channel of Wunderbar films, in association with their digital partner Divo.
Directed by Pa Ranjith, Kaala is slated to release on April 27. The film is Rajini's second collaboration with Ranjith, who delighted fans with Kabali in 2016.
Kaala's story reportedly revolves around the oppression of Tamil people in Mumbai.
In the film, the superstar will play the role of a gangster. It will apparently have a very strong political angle and will address the issue of oppressed Tamils.
In Kabali, too, Rajinikanth had played a don but the film was set in Malaysia and revolved around the lives of Malaysian Tamils.
The film has been made as a Tamil-Hindi bilingual and will also be dubbed in Telugu. Since the film has been mostly shot against the backdrop of Mumbai, the makers had decided to simultaneously shoot the film in Hindi. If not every scene, those featuring Rajinikanth and some key supporting cast were shot in Hindi. Unlike Kabali, the film won’t be dubbed in Hindi, and Rajinikanth has mouthed his lines in Hindi and in Marathi at some key junctures.
The film also stars Huma Qureshi, Nana Patekar, Anjali Patil, Sukanya, Samuthirakani and others.
While the music for the film has been composed by Santosh Narayanan, the cinematography has been done by Murali G and editing by A Sreekar Prasad.
According to a statement released by the filmmakers, Shahir Muneer, director of Divo, "said that its the 8th project Wunderbar Studios and Divo are working together since their first collaboration started in 2014. Dhanush's Wunderbar Films is a trendsetter in setting a new industry model especially in regional cinema, where as the producer he has been consistely monetizing the audio, online video rights without needing to sell the copyright/IP with help of distribution and digital partner Divo. This has resulted in Wunderbar realising one of the highest subscribers, followers and reach on online and social media. Shahir further commented that the digital assets of Wunderbar in 2017 had a combined viewrship of 500 million plus which is among the highest in India for a regional film producer."
Some weeks ago, a video clip of a stunt sequence from the Kaala started doing rounds around social networking sites, leaving the makers upset and furious. Last year, an audio clip too was leaked from the film.
