Superstar Rajinikanth's forthcoming flick Kaala is one of the hugely awaited films of the year. The film was supposed to release on April 27 but the makers had to push the film's release to June due to the stand-off between Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) and the Digital Service Providers which paralysed the industry for about two months and came to an end recently.

According to the latest update, satellite rights of Kaala have been reportedly bought by the leading network, Star group, for a whopping Rs 75 crore. This is a record price considering that no other South Indian film barring 2.0 and Baahubali managed to create such a hysteria without boasting of a top cast, technical crew and star director.

Previously, Rajini starrer 2.0's satellite rights across all languages were bagged by Zee Network for a whopping Rs 100 crore, making it the highest amount paid for an Indian film. The sci-fi movie, which is a sequel to the hit film, Enthiran, has had multiple changes in its release date and is yet to zero in on a final date.

In Kaala, Rajinikanth plays a slum-lord turned gangster. The movie is about Kaala, a powerful don from Dharavi. The film has been directed by Pa. Ranjith and it’s his second collaboration with the superstar after Kabali. While many reports suggested that this film will be based on gangster Haji Mastan, the crew denied all such reports. The highly anticipated film has reportedly received ‘U/A’ certificate from the Censor Board and has 14 cuts in the film.

The film is believed to revolve around the lives of oppressed Tamils in Mumbai and their fight for equality. Produced by Dhanush, the film also stars Nana Patekar, Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, Huma Qureshi and Samuthirakani in pivotal roles. It is bankrolled by Rajinikanth’s son-in-law Dhanush under the banner Wunderbar Films. Lyca Productions is releasing Kaala in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi.
