After Reliance Jio’s first Jio Phone, which was an ‘effectively free’ phone saw immense success, its successor Jio Phone 2 is set to go on sale on Thursday. The Jio Phone 2 was announced at the Reliance Industries’ Annual General Meeting in July.
Where and how to buy
The flash sale for Jio Phone 2, which the company calls the ‘high-end’ model will begin at 12pm on August 16 via the company’s official website Jio.com for an introductory price of Rs 2,999. Once ordered, the company says that the Jio Phone 2 will be delivered within 5-7 business days.
Jio Phone 2 specifications:
Unlike the first model, the JioPhone 2 comes with a horizontal screen display and a full QWERTY keyboard. The 4G-enabled smart feature phone supports VoWiFi and runs on Kai OS.
Jio Phone 2 is a dual-SIM (Nano) phone with a 2.4-inch QVGA display. While it is not a touch phone, it has navigation buttons, similar to the design of the iconic Blackberry phones.
The smartphone comes with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage that is expandable via microSD card up to 128GB.
In terms of camera, Jio Phone 2 has a 2-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front camera for selfies.
Apart from 4G, it also supports Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, and FM radio and has a 2000mAh battery.
Apart from supporting all of Jio’s apps, Jio Phone 2 also offers Facebook, WhatsApp and YouTube.
Jio Phone special features
Jio Phone 2 comes with a Google Assistant that can be activated using voice commands. There is a dedicated button for the voice commands.
The voice commands support actions such as making calls, sending SMSs, browsing the internet and opening services such as JioMusic, JioCinema, among others.
Jio Phone 2 also supports 22 regional languages that the phone can be used in. These include Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri , Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santhali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu
Reliance Jio plans for Jio Phone 2
There are three special plans available for the Jio Phone 2 starting at Rs 49. The cheapest plan, which comes for Rs 49 offers 1GB of data along with 50 SMS, valid for 28 days.
The Rs 99 plan offers 14GB of data and 300 SMSs and lastly the Rs 153 plan offers 42GB of data and unlimited messages. What’s common for all the three plans is the validity, which is 28 days and all plans come with subscription of all of Jio’s apps. As is the case with every Jio sim, calling will remain free and once the data limit of the plan is exhausted, the speed of the internet will come down to 64 Kbps.
Upgrades of Jio Phone
Starting August 15, Relaince has made Facebook, YouTube and Google Maps available for JioPhone customers. It has also announced that WhatsApp will soon be made available.
JioPhone already comes with free voice calls and a host of applications with premium content on the go such as JioTV, JioCinema, JioMusic and JioChat.
It also has features such as Voice Command to make calls, send messages, search the internet, play music, watch videos and operate the entire suite of applications available on the JioPhone.
