Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s condition is “extremely grave”, London-based Dr. Richard Beale has said in a statement released on Monday.

On Sunday evening, Jayalalithaa suffered cardiac arrest, over two months after she was admitted to Apollo Hospital after complaints of dehydration. Currently, she is on ECMO and other life support.

Dr. Richard said that he had been monitoring the situation and maintained that the best possible care was being given to the Chief Minister.

" The situation is  extremely grave, but I can confirm that everything possible is being done to give her the best chance of surviving this shocking event. She is being cared for by a highly expert multidisciplinary team, and is now on extra-corporal life support. This is the most advanced level of support available, and is the approach the best centres internationally would take in this situation," he wrote.

Beale, from the London Bridge Hospital, has been regularly consulted by doctors at the Apollo Hospitals here ever since Jayalalitha was admitted in September.
