The News Minute | August 7, 2014 | 6.11 pm IST Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has unveiled the latest – Amma Seeds – product in a series of government schemes that carry her nick-name “Amma”. On Thursday Jayalalithaa said in the Assembly that the government would set up Amma Seed Agencies across the state to make high quality seeds available for farmers, according to a Times of India report. The government would make the seeds available through coordination with government seed farms, farmers and seed production units. The initial cost of the scheme is expected to around Rs 156 crore. This is not the first time the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has launched government schemes in her own name. Tamil Nadu now has Amma canteens, Amma salt, Amma pharmacies, Amma departmental stores called Amma Amudham, Amma tea, and Amma mineral water.
