A political row has ensued in Jammu and Kashmir over a cow’s seeming interest to appear for the state’s Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE). An admit card had been reportedly issued with a cow’s image where a human face is supposed to be with the name Kachir Gaw (brown cow).According to a report in The Indian Express, the National Conference has gone after the People’s Democratic Party after the issue was brought to light by NC spokesman Junaid Azeem Mattu on Twitter. The J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examinations issued this roll-number slip to a Cow after due verification. 1/n pic.twitter.com/7Qg51kbQFH — Junaid Azim Mattu (@Junaid_Mattu) May 2, 2015I have both the Provisional Confirmation Page for applicant Ms. "Kachir Gaw" as well as details of payment she made to BOPEE. 2/n — Junaid Azim Mattu (@Junaid_Mattu) May 2, 2015After Mattu’s tweets, former J&K CM Omar Abdullah also took to Twitter to weigh in on the issue.Brilliant. I wish Kachir Gaaw had turned up for the examination  — Omar Abdullah (@abdullah_omar) May 2, 2015According to the controller examination of the BOPEE, Farooq Ahmad Mir, authorities can’t do much from preventing such things from happening, explaining that the entire process was computer generated. “There is image recognition software, which does not differentiate between a human’s face and an animal’s picture,” he is quoted as saying. Mir added that the prankster’s IP address would be used to track him down. His explanation hasn’t stemmed the attacks by the NC though with Mattu saying that the state education minister Naeem Akhtar should explain. However after an informal heads-up was sent to the Government, BOPEE was asked to take the record down from their website this morning. 3/n — Junaid Azim Mattu (@Junaid_Mattu) May 2, 2015Mr. Naeem Akhtar @jkpdp has some explaining to do. New benchmark of progress in Education Sector under him - COWS getting roll no slips? 4/4 — Junaid Azim Mattu (@Junaid_Mattu) May 2, 2015 Mattu’s accusation that the state issued an admit card to a cow, whose father’s name has been mentioned as Gur Dand (bull), has evoked derision from Akhtar who says that the party should be computer-literate enough to understand the problem. “When they couldn’t find any issue of substance, they started raising these trivial issues”, he’s quoted as saying.
