Actor Nayanthara, last seen playing a dual role in horror thriller Airaa, will next join hands with superstar Rajinikanth in AR Murugadoss’s yet-untitled film, currently dubbed as Thalaivar 167

Over the last few weeks, reports regarding the casting of the project have been doing the rounds. A few days ago, some reports claimed that actor-filmmaker SJ Suryah is part of Murugadoss’s next film.

Putting all these rumours to rest, Rajinikanth’s publicist Riaz Ahmed on Monday clarified that apart from Nayanthara nobody else has been finalised yet to Rajinikanth’s next project.

“The rumours being speculated about the cast of Thalaivar 167 is not authentic, as of now, only Nayanthara has been roped in the film! Kindly do not spread the news until you get an official press release about the entire confirmed cast,” he tweeted.

The project is most likely to go on the floors in Mumbai from later this week and sources believe that the first look poster will be unveiled on that occasion. It is rumoured that Rajinikanth plays a cop in the film.

His look from the test shoot got leaked last week, much to the shock of his fans. Members of Rajinikanth’s fan clubs on social media requested people not to circulate the look from the film.

Lensman Santosh Sivan will crank the camera for this film and Anirudh Ravichander has been signed to compose music. This will be his second successive film with Rajinikanth after Petta.

In his latest interview to Times of India, Anirudh confirmed signing Rajinikanth’s next film with Murugadoss. Talking about his upcoming Tamil projects, he said: “As of now, Indian 2 and Murugadoss sir’s film (with Rajinikanth). These two are my Tamil projects, and I have one in Telugu (Jersey, starring Nani).”

The project was originally supposed to be produced by Sun Pictures. However, they opted out of the project after their last outing with Murugadoss, Sarkar, was embroiled in controversy. Therefore, Lyca Productions took over the reins of the project. While Lyca had previously produced Rajinikanth’s 2.0, they forayed into production with Murugadoss’s Kaththi.
