With Chhota Rajan finally on Indian soil after a delay of three days, in the wee hours of Friday, intelligence agencies are on the lookout for Rajan’s lookalikes reports The Times of India.
According to the report, this is a ploy by the authorities to confuse potential attackers who are likely to cause harm to the underworld don. Already one such double has been deployed since he landed at IGI airport, while the search for others continues. The double is expected to enjoy the same high level of security as the don, which includes 25-30 commandoes armed with automatic assault rifles or submachine guns, and two guards with Glock pistols similar to that of SPG protectees.
Officers privy to the information of Rajan’s threat perception told TOI that it is not only Dawood or D Company, but even some of his own men who could pose a threat to his life. In addition, some Mumbai cops and politicians may also want to eliminate Rajan. According to experts, this is primarily the reason that Rajan is being held in CBI headquarters at Delhi instead of Mumbai.
Earlier this week, Maharashtra CM Devendra Phadnavis had said that he would seek Rajan’s custody from the centre on behalf of the Mumbai Police.
Rajan was arrested by the Indonesian police on October 25, based on an Interpol Red Corner notice, after being tipped off by Australian intelligence agencies.
