Samuthirakani will be making his debut as director in the Malayalam film industry with the film Aakasha Mittayee. The film is a remake of the critically acclaimed Tamil film Appa, which was directed by Samuthirakani himself.

Earlier, it was reported that Varalaxmi Sarathkumar will be playing the female lead in the movie but she opted out following a difference of opinion with the producers. Her ouster paved the way for Ineya to join the sets.

On bagging the role, Ineya was quoted by the Times of India as saying, “I am not aware of what prompted Varalaxmi to call it quits. That said, I am quite comfortable with the team here, and the conviction that I could convincingly carry off the role of a mature mother, made them zero in on me. There is a lot of scope for performance.”

“There are sequences, where Radhika realises that her presumptions or actions have been totally wrong, after certain things go haywire. I am in a state of bliss right now, as this year has brought me a bunch of good films, both in Malayalam and Tamil.”

Sources close to Aakasha Mittayee maintain that though it is a remake of the Tamil movie Appa, some changes have been made in the main plot and the characters as well. Produced by Sudev, the film has Jayaram as the main lead with Kalabhavan Shajohn in a pivotal role.

While Ineya has started work on this project, she is also looking forward to the release of Puthan Panam, which has Mammootty in the lead role. Ranjith has directed this film, which will hit the marquee on April 14 as a Vishu and Easter release.

Being a part of prestigious projects, Ineya is happy over the way her career is shaping up.
