It was earlier reported that Aashiq Abu’s film Virus is based on the Nipah virus outbreak in Kerala that had taken a few lives in the state. The film has a host of prominent actors and only three of their characters had been revealed so far. Now, Indrajith Sukumaran has told The Times of India about the role he plays in the movie.
The star said, “I play a character who is inspired by Dr RS Gopakumar in the movie. He, along with his attenders, was in charge of cremating the bodies of the victims. Like him, there are many such important people in the Kozhikode Corporation who were entrusted pivotal duties during the crisis by the government. A lot of our characters including Kunchacko Boban’s virologist and Tovino Thomas’ collector are inspired by real-life people. So, again every actor in the film has equal space. It’s a big and exciting film for me.”
The actor added that the director will be showing the Kozhikode city in a positive light as it survived the Nipah virus outbreak.
Virus has a notable line-up for stars in the cast including Asif Ali, Parvathy, Rima Kallingal, Soubin Shahir, Dileesh Pothan, Rahman, Indrans, Remya Nambeesan, Madonna Sebastian, Sharafudheen, Sreenath Bhasi, Revathy, Joju George, Senthil Krishna, Basil Joseph, Sudeesh and Vettukili Prakash.
Speaking to TNM earlier, Aashiq Abu had said that Rima Kallingal will play Lini, the nurse who died of the virus after serving at the hospital where the first of the infected people were admitted, Revathy will play the Kerala State Health Minister, KK Shailaja, and Tovino will portray the Kozhikode District Collector, UV Jose.
The scripting for Virus is done by Mushin Parari, Suhas and Sharfu. National Award winning cinematographer Rajeev Ravi will be cranking the camera for this venture with Sushin Shyam composing the tunes and Saiju Sreedharan taking charge at the editing table. Aashiq Abu and Rima Kallingal are bankrolling Virus under the banner OPM.
The film will release on June 7 this year.
