Nayanthara’s new film Aramm, a political thriller with a very strong social angle, is slated for release this week in cinemas.

Directed by writer-turned-filmmaker Gopi Nainar, the film features Nayanthara in the role of a district collector who has her abilities and power challenged when she has to deal with a life and death situation.

The film marks the directorial debut of Gopi, who owes his career to Nayanthara and he said he will always be indebted to her.

Apparently, Gopi’s script was turned by many producers before it caught the attention of Nayanthara. She is said to have agreed to do the film in just the fifth minute of the narration. Speaking at the film’s press meet in Chennai on Monday, Gopi said that Nayanthara vowed to get the film made when she agreed to be part of the project.

“I narrated the script to her at 12 pm and by 3 pm I was paid advance and asked to not worry about anything. She told me that it’s now her responsibility to get the film made. Even after she came on board, some vested interests tried to stop the film from taking off. Despite all the setbacks, she didn’t give up on the project and ensured that it got made. She owned the film. After we finished shooting, she told me that she not only wants the film to release but also wants to see me succeed. To even hear her say such words meant the world to me,” he said.

Amidst rumours that Nayanthara has produced the film, it has emerged that her long-time friend K. Rajesh has bankrolled the project. The film has music by Ghibran and also features a host of supporting cast.

For the uninitiated, Gopi Nainar was embroiled in a controversy during the release of A.R Murugadoss’s Kaththi. He had claimed that it’s his story that Murugadoss tweaked and made into a film with Vijay.

While Murugadoss denied all charges and even said he did not know Gopi, the controversy earned lot of media attention. At the press meet, Gopi said: “The media made me what I’m today. I owe my career to them and to Nayanthara madam. Had they not supported me, I don’t know what I would have done.”

He reiterated that Aramm will be a powerful film that will leave an impact on the audience.
