One of the most anticipated biopics in the film industry right now is Mahanati, which is based on the life of celebrated yesteryears actor Savitri. The Tamil-Telugu bilingual on the south actor is directed by Nag Ashwin and stars Keerthy Suresh in the lead role.

Ahead of the mega release of the film on May 9, actor Rana Daggubati took to social media to wish the cast and crew good luck.

Taking to Twitter, Rana Daggubati wrote, “What a great story all of you chose to tell. Immortalising cinema and its Gods/Goddesses through cinema itself. Nothing can be more satisfying. My best wishes to team.”

The actor who has been open about his admiration for the legendary actor SV Ranga Rao, known for his acting skills and particularly his portrayals of mythological characters, earlier unveiled the character of Ranga Rao, played by actor Mohan Babu.

Besides Rana, actor Radhika Sarathkumar also tweeted her wishes to the cast and crew of the film. She also appreciated Keerthy Suresh, who she said looked “amazing” in the role of “the only actor I admired on screen”.

Actor Savitri was a versatile actor who began her acting career in 1950 with the release of Samsaram. She then went on to star in several movies in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi.

The actor ruled both the Tamil and Telugu industry during the 1950s-60s, which was considered the golden age of south Indian cinema. She also won several prestigious awards in her long career before her life ended abruptly due to substance abuse.

Titled Nadigaiyar Thilagam in Tamil, the film will have a simultaneous release on May 9 across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana in India.

The films cast also includes Samantha Akkineni, Anushka Shetty, Naga Chaitanya, Dulquer Salman, Vijay Deverakonda, Mohan Babu, Shalini Pandey, Prakash Raj and several others.

According to reports, Samantha plays a journo in this flick and the story is told through her perspective. Naga Chaitanya will portray his grandfather, Akkineni Nageswara Rao. The film will mark the Telugu debut of Malayalam star Dulquer Salman, who is playing the role of actor Gemini Ganesan.

Bankrolled by Vyjayanthi Movies, the film’s director of photography is Dani Sanchez-Lopez and Mickey J Meyer is the music composer.
