A two-day thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Hyderabad.

Heavy rains are expected in a few districts across both the states, according to the IMD.

The IMD has issued warning of heavy rains in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari districts in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and across all districts of Rayalaseema.

In Telangana, the districts of Adilabad, Nizamabad, Nirmal, Jagtial, Karimnagar, Rajanna Sircilla, Medak, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Warangal Urban and Warangal Rural are expected to see heavy showers over the next couple of days.

“Monsoons are active. There is upper air circulation in Orissa which will lead to increased rainfall activity in parts of the states,” said YK Reddy of IMD Hyderabad.

He further added that owing to the air circulation activity in Marathwada, Maharashtra and adjoining areas, there were increased chances of heavy rainfall to occur in pockets of north Telangana.

It has also been noted that thunderstorms are ‘very likely’ to occur in these regions for the next two days.

“Monsoons become active once this air circulation is fully developed. As we are seeing that now, we have issued the heavy rainfall and thunderstorm alerts in the two states,” Reddy added.

North Telangana is expected to receive heavy rains over the next two days while the southern parts of the state are expected to see light showers.

North coastal Andhra Pradesh as well as Krishna district are also expected to witness thunderstorms over the next two days.
