'I will definitely take the political plunge in the next 5-10 years': Varalaxmi Sarathkumar

'Everybody keeps saying politics is a dirty game, but people who aren’t fearful should come and wipe it clean,' she was quoted saying in an interview.

Actor Varalaxmi Sarathkumar who is awaiting the release of her next with actor Vijay has now revealed her plans to enter politics. In an interview to The New Indian Express, the actor said, “I have a voice and I'm not afraid to use it. I haven't decided on the party as yet, but I will definitely take the political plunge in the next 5-10 years. Everybody keeps saying politics is a dirty game, but people who aren’t fearful should come and wipe it clean. I appeal to our generation to play a proactive role in the development of our country."

After playing a negative role in Sandakozhi 2, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar will be seen as a politician in Vijay’s Sarkar, which is gearing up for release on November 6. Teaming up with Murugadoss and Vijay for the first time, Varu is excited about Sarkar, which is a political thriller set against the backdrop of bogus voting.

Talking about the film and her character, she said, “Sarkar has an interesting premise. It explores the nexus between politicians and the corporate world. Also, it comes with a message. After watching the film, I’m sure the public will realize the value of their vote because it is the only way to choose your representatives and your own government. It gives us the power to determine the future course of our nation.”

“In Sarkar, I play a character that is completely in contrast to Sandakozhi 2. It doesn’t have references to any person living or dead,” Varalaxmi added without divulging more details about her character.

Directed by AR Murugadoss, who has teamed up with Vijay for the third time, the film has been produced by Sun Pictures.

Sarkar is releasing amidst unprecedented hype. It is rumored to release in around 3000 screens worldwide. The film has music by AR Rahman while Girish Gangadharan, the young lensman whose recent work includes Kali and Solo, has cranked the camera and National Award-winning editor Sreekar Prasad, who has worked with Murugadoss in projects such as Thuppakki and Spyder, has taken care of editing.
