Having delivered her career-best performance in Bala’s Naachiyaar, in which she played a fearless, hot-headed, profanity-spurting cop, Jyothika will soon commence work on Mani Ratnam’s multi-starrer Chekka Chivantha Vaanam.

The project will see Jyothika share screen space with Arvind Swami, Vijay Sethupathi, Simbu, Arun Vijay, Aishwarya Rajesh and Aditi Rao Hydari. All set to commence work on Ratnam’s film, it has now been confirmed that Jyothika will get to reprise Vidya Balan’s role in the Tamil remake of Tumhari Sulu, and the former is thrilled about the opportunity.

On bagging the project, Jyothika, according to Times of India, said in a statement: “I'm a big Vidya (Balan) fan. I love her voice and command over Hindi, which is rare in Bollywood today. I’ve watched every Vidya film, and Tumhari Sulu, in my opinion, is her most lovable work. I feel honoured to be stepping into her shoes. Kudos to the producers and to director Suresh (Triveni) for making such a lively, honest, real and feel-good film. Tumhari Sulu is a hugely special film for me and I wish Jyotika all the best in spreading the Sulu love.”

To be helmed by Radha Mohan, who had earlier worked with Jyothika in award-winning Tamil drama Mozhi, the film is expected to go on the floors from May.

Apparently, Mohan and Jyothika have been planning to work together for quite some time and both felt Tumhari Sulu, which struck gold at the box-office, would be the best option. In the film, Vidya plays a hard-working homemaker, who works as an RJ on a late night show.

National award-winning editor KL Praveen and cinematographer Mahesh Muthusamy are already on board.
