'I did not take up the role of Shilpa for winning awards': Vijay Sethupathi on his role in 'Super Deluxe'

The story of 'Super Deluxe' has been penned by its director Thiagarajan Kumararaja.

Vijay Sethupathi is one of the finest actors in the Tamil film industry right now. The talented star will soon be making his debut in Tollywood with Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy in which he shares the screen space with Chiranjeevi and Amitabh Bachchan. His debut in the Malayalam film industry is also on cards.

The star’s next release in Kollywood will be Petta  in which he will be sharing the screen space with the Superstar Rajinikanth for the first time in his career. This Karthik Subburaj directorial is scheduled to hit the silver screens for Pongal next year. Vijay Sethupathi also has an exciting role to plan in Thiyagarajan Kumararaja's Super Deluxe.

Talking about his role in this film, he reportedly told in a recent press interaction, “I didn’t act as a trans woman for the sake of winning awards. When director Thiagarajan Kumararaja narrated the script of Super Deluxe, he asked me to take a week’s time and decide whether to play the particular role or not but I immediately told him that whenever he directs the film, I would play Shilpa. I didn’t meet anyone to prepare for this role. Our society considers the transgender community as a curse but they are just like any one of us.”

The story of Super Deluxe has been penned by its director Thiagarajan Kumararaja while the screenplay has been done by Thiagarajan Kumararaja with additional inputs by Mysskin, Nalan Kumarasamy and Neelan K Sekar. The film is bankrolled by the director himself under his own banner.

Yuvan Shankar Raja is composing music for this venture with PS Vinod and Nirav Shah cranking the camera and Sathyaraj Natarajan taking care of the editing. The shooting of this film has reached the final stages and plans are on to have it released next year.
