Anushka Shetty is one of the few heroines who have been able to bag women-centric roles consistently.
The gorgeous actor made her debut with the Telugu movie Super way back in 2005 but it was in 2009 the film buffs started to notice her. Her portrayal as Arundhati won her accolades from all quarters.
Directed by Kodi Ramakrishna, she appeared in two roles - Arundhati and Jejamma – in the movie and captivated the audiences with her spelling binding performance. She was then seen as Rudramadevi in the film with the same title but Baahubali was the crown of it all.
Though she had limited scope of performance in Baahubali: the Beginning, in its sequel she had a meaty role to play with a larger screen presence.
And now, Anushka Shetty is basking in glory over the positive reviews pouring in for her Bhaagamathie which released on January 26, 2018. The film was directed by G Ashok and was released in Telugu as well as Tamil.
In an interview to OnManorama, the actor opened up about the roles she got to play so far and revealed that it was intentional that she selected women-centric roles. She however added that she choose powerful scripts with exciting storylines.
In the interview, she was quoted as saying, “It's not that I pick movies that are centered on women characters. I choose powerful scripts with exciting storylines. But I agree that the kind of scripts that are coming in, share a basic thread that revolves around a powerful woman character. I think in south India, Arundhathi kick-started a wave of women-centric fantasy movies, thanks to filmmaker Kodi Ramakrishna. Arundhathi did really well in Indian cinema. I am glad that I'd been a part of it. I think Arundhathi opened up a market for such movies again.”
