The Hyderabad police on Monday registered a case against a man for beating a street dog to death, after he alleged that it bit his wife.

The Hindu reported:

The person named Venkatesh was seen carrying the body of a dog on his bicycle in the afternoon at Injapur of Hayathnagar. Priyanka, an animal activist living in the same locality, noticed this and stopped him.

After a confrontation, the activist lodged a complaint against Venkanna at the Hayatnagar police station.

"The carcass of the dog was preserved in an ice box at the police station as the veterinary doctor refused to conduct a post-mortem after 5 pm. The dog's post-mortem will be conducted tomorrow and, based on the report, we will proceed further," Hayatnagar inspector J Narender Goud told TOI.

Venkanna also told the police that the dog was rabid.
