Sparking a controversy, a video of AIMIM MLA Kausar Moinuddin, beating a man identified as Sarfar Ahmed with a stick has gone viral. In the video, Kausar – who represents Karwan constituency in Hyderabad – has been seen using slurs and beating Sarfar in his office in the presence of a local corporator who is seen laughing.

Speaking to TNM about the video, the MLA justified his actions: “That man, Sarfar (victim) works for me. He is an alcoholic who used to trouble everyone in the locality after drinking. That’s when I tried to intimidate him. If you see the video carefully, you’ll notice that I beat him jokingly. There’s nothing serious in it.”

Kausar further said, “It is an old video, I don’t even recall when the incident took place. My detractors have now accessed that video and are trying to malign me. Please see the clarification video that Sarfar has put. This is all a conspiracy by some rival politicians.”

After the video went viral, the victim, Sarfar put out a video giving a clean chit to the MLA, and claimed that he had a drinking problem and had created a nuisance, and Kausar was like a father-figure who wished for his well being.

“I was an alcoholic who was borrowing money from sir (the MLA) saying that I needed money for other reasons. Then I was using that money to drink. When he got to know, he got upset and told me not to do such things. I have no problem with sir. I have worked with him for 10 years and he has helped me with many things including my children's marriage. He scolded and scared me for my own good. He has good intentions and it is wrong to circulate that video with such a wrong message. He loves me more than his own son and takes good care of me,” Sarfar said.
