In a shocking incident, a 28-year-old man was killed in Hyderabad over a petty issue involving food at an engagement ceremony on Monday.

The incident took place at around 1.30 am.

On Sunday, Taj and Raziya Sultana—bride and groom from Hyderabad, hosted a dinner at a function in Hussaini Alam, Hyderabad.

The dinner was hosted by the bride’s family.

At the dinner, a few drunk members from the groom’s side continued harassing the caterers, for not serving food. When the caterers said that it was late and most of the food was over, the drunk group picked up an argument with the catering staff.

Trying to calm the situation, Mohammed Anwar, the deceased, who is a cousin of the bride, intervened.

Anwar and Ashfaq Ali Khan, the main culprit, who has been detained by the police, both got into a serious altercation with Mohammed and attacked him.

“During the argument, Ashfaq threatened that if they weren’t served proper food within 10 minutes, bloodshed would follow,” Hussaini Alam Inspector G Shyamsundar told TNM.

However, even after attacking Anwar, the group returned armed with knives. “They got drunk again and chased Anwar and hacked him to death,” the Inspector said.

In the incident, one more person Sohail, was injured. He is undergoing treatment.

Police have detained the prime accused Ashfaq Ali Khan for the gruesome murder.

“Six more people involved in the crime are absconding. We will nab them soon.”

Following the incident, the wedding of Taj and Raziya broke off.

“Both the families called off the marriage after the incident,” Inspector Shyamsundar said.
