In a horrifying incident, a husband allegedly killed his wife for not clearing the MBBS entrance exam in Hyderabad.
The incident took place on Sunday evening in Rock Town Colony, LB Nagar. However, it came to light on Monday. Police have arrested the accused, Rishi Kumar, who works in a private company.
A case under Section 302 (punishment for murder) and 304 (punishment for culpable homicide) of the IPC, has been booked against him, following a complaint by the deceased victim’s parents.
According to LB Nagar Assistant Commissioner of Police, Venu Gopal Rao, the victim, 21 year-old Harika, had a fight and argument with her husband earlier in the day related to her poor performance in the recently held medical test.
“After the fight, Rishi left the home at around 4 pm. He came back after 7 pm and noticed that she was charred to death. Based on the complaint of the victim’s parents, we have arrested him. However, no evidences have been found against him yet,” the police officer told TNM.
Harika’s parents alleged that Rishi had been harassing her for additional dowry.
It was also reported that Harika was staying at a hostel earlier, and taking long-term EAMCET coaching. She returned to Rishi after managing to secure a Bachelor of Dental Surgery seat, and they were discussing which college she should join.
“Even the accused hasn’t confessed to the crime. The post-mortem report is yet to arrive. We may get a lead, if it was suicide or murder after receiving the report,” the ACP added.
Rishi has claimed that Harika committed suicide, and he returned home to find her charred body. However, the police doubt his version of events.
