On Friday evening, a woman wielding a gun shot at her husband thrice in the middle of Hosur Road in their car, and then chased him in her SUV when he tried to escape. He however managed to survive the shooting and the woman is now under police custody.

The 45-year-old woman, Hamsa, has now revealed that she and her husband had fought over the choice of groom for their 20-year-old daughter.

“Hamsa gained consciousness early on Saturday morning and we have recorded her statement. She said that in her 27-year marriage with Sairam, she was never happy. After much consideration, she had picked a groom for her daughter, who runs a play school. They were supposed to meet the prospective groom on Saturday,” Surya City Police said.

Hamsa wanted her husband to come along for the meeting with the prospective groom and his parents. She told the police that Sairam showed no interest in the matter and had also opposed the match.

“According to Hamsa, her husband opposed the match as she had chosen the groom. She said that Sairam wanted to select the groom for their daughter and was adamant about it,” the police added.

The statement given by Hamsa says that she and Sairam got into a heated argument about the prospective groom. In a fit of rage, Sairam allegedly punched Hamsa in the face. Police officials confirmed that both the husband and the wife were under the influence of alcohol.

“The woman claims that she shot her husband in self-defence. This is not the first time the police had to intervene in their marital disputes. Over the years, the couple have visited the HSR Layout police station many times after getting into huge fights. Hamsa and her daughter lived separately,” the Surya City police added.

The police are waiting for Sairam to wake up so that his statement can be recorded.

The weapon was registered to Hamsa and police say that she was in possession of one as her husband runs a private security firm, Ace Management.

Hamsa shot at Sairam in the SUV. When he rushed out of the car and entered a BMTC bus, she chased him in the SUV, entered the bus and tried to harm him again.

The passengers in the bus disarmed her and handed Hamsa over to the police.
