The Home Department has booked cases against 186 schools in the city for non-compliance of the safety guidelines issued by police and state department, states a report by The New Indian Express. The cases have been registered under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code against 161 private schools and 25 government schools.

The department has also made several suggestions to the existing list of guidelines to be implemented by schools. Apart from installing CCTV cameras, the schools could likely be asked to compulsorily set up a 'control room with security personnel to constantly monitor the footage', adds the report.

The Home Department's move comes after the High Court on Friday told the police and education department to not show leniency to schools that fail to implement the safety guidelines, states the report. A committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary V Umesh will incorporate the suggestions by the Home Department and form the revised set of guidelines.
