After a Hindu Sena leader called and complained to the police about beef being served in the canteen of the Kerala House, a state guest house in Delhi, around 20 policemen went to spot on Monday, reported The Indian Express.

The cops spoke to the employees of the Kerala House who said that what they were serving was buffalo meat, but the item had been named "beef" on the menu. Following the incident, Kerala House has decided to remove buffalo meat from their menu for now, states the report.

Kerala House Resident Commissioner has also filed a complaint with the DCP, New Delhi, over the entry of some individuals in the state guest house without permission.

A police official of New Delhi district told The Indian Express that they had received a complaint over the phone around 4:30 pm about beef being served in Kerala House's canteen and reached the spot to avert any untoward incident.

The caller was, he said, a Hindu Sena leader called Vishnu Gupta.

"It was a preventive measure. The police went to the canteen and informed the staff of the complaint of the Hindu Sena, but did not collect any samples from the canteen," the officer told the newspaper, adding that when they reached the guest house, a few members of the Hindu Sena were already present there.

Vishnu Gupta however alleged that Kerala House was in fact serving cow meat.

He told The Indian Express, "I made a PCR call informing the police to act as the Kerala House on its menu listed Beef Fry as a dish. They were serving cow meat, but the police did not even inquire if the canteen served cow’s meat. The police did not even ask for a sample of the meat served in the canteen."

A Hindu Sena activist was detained for questioning and later released, adds the report.
