Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's visit to Karnataka's Mangaluru on Saturday was marked by Sangh Parivar outfits calling for a hartal.

Taking part in the harmony rally organized by CPI (M), Pinarayi Vijayan lashed out at RSS, holding them accountable for the increasing instances of communal violence in the country.

“Since its inception, the RSS has only propagated communalism and have tried to spread violence related to it. The RSS ideology is not in tandem with the national sentiments. Unfortunately, they have now got the power to determine the functioning of our government. The PM himself is acting upon RSS’ instruction," he said.

Pinarayi also said, "It was in 1925 that RSS was founded, at a time when the Independence movement was at its peak. Despite this, it is one organization that had no role to play in the freedom struggle. When all the political parties, irrespective of their ideologies, demanded that the British should leave the country, RSS is the only organization that did not make that demand. RSS was never ready to keep the people of the country united. They wanted the people to fight amongst each other, which led to them to encourage communal violence."

As he continued to speak about the freedom struggle, Pinarayi questioned why the RSS had killed Mahatma Gandhi.

“The RSS conspired for a long time, to murder Gandhi. Just as Godse used a weapon to kill Gandhi, one must understand that Godse himself was just a tool in the hands of the RSS. They even distributed sweets when Gandhijij was killed.”

Following the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), BJP, Hindu Jagarana Vedike and Shri Ram Sene warning of chaos in Dakshina Kannada if Pinarayi Vijayan “dared to arrive”, Section 144 was imposed in the entire district.

Responding on the right wing's opposition to his visit, the Kerala CM said that he was not a leader who came to power all of a sudden, and indicated that he was a seasoned leader.

"Pinarayi Vijayan is not someone who was airdropped to the Chief Minister’s chair one fine day," he said, adding, “During my college days in Brennen College in Thalassery, I have, without fear walked in the midst of sword-wielding RSS workers. Nobody can stop me."
