The News Minute | December 20, 20144 | 5.03 pm IST Following the results of the DNA test performed on the Raghaveshwara Bharati seer, a demand is being made for him to step down as the head of the Ramachandrapura Mutt. Raghaveshwara Bharati seer has been accused of raping Premalatha Divakar, a singer who performed the Ramakatha for the Mutt. The matter came to light when the woman’s daughter Anshumathi filed a complaint with the Bangalore police after the Uattara Kannada district police arrested Premalatha and her husband Divakar Shastri on charges of blackmailing the seer. The Ramachandrapura Mutt has been associated with the Havyaka Brahmin community which is spread out across the state. Following the results of the DNA test, and other medical tests performed on the seer, members of the Havyaka community reportedly organized a meeting and decided to ask the seer to step down. According to a report in Deccan Herald, the Attorney General Ravi Varma Kumar told the Karnataka High Court that the results of the medical test supported the claims of the prosecution and were sufficient to file a chargesheeet against the seer. However, the AG added that the prosecution wished to investigate further, and that the seer was not cooperating with the probe.
