The Vijay Sethupathi – Trisha starrer 96 opened to packed houses on October 4 and has turned out to be a massive success with good reviews. Interestingly, the film’s Telugu remake rights were lapped up by ace producer Dil Raju even before its release and is now all set to be remade. The producer is keen on a remake and has decided not to dub the film in Telugu, say sources. A few days ago there were reports of Samantha being in talks to reprise the role done by Trisha in the Tamil version, but there is official word on it yet.

According to latest reports, the remake may be directed by Harish Shankar and the producer is in talks with him. Harish Shankar and Dil Raju had teamed up for the Allu Arjun starrer Duvvada Jagannadham earlier and share a good rapport. Also, people in the trade feel that Harish would be the right choice to direct the 96 remake as his directorial Gabbar Singh, which was the remake of the hit Bollywood film Dabangg, was a big hit.

It may be noted here that Harish Shankar and Dil Raju were in talks earlier for Dagudu Moothalu but the project failed to take off as the producer was not happy with the script. Harish is yet to find a producer to back the project and may decide on directing the 96 remake before taking it up again.

96 is a C Prem Kumar directorial bankrolled by Nandagopal under the Madras Enterprises banner. The film has Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha playing the lead roles, pairing up for the first time. The star cast also includes Varsha Bollamma, Aadithya Baaskar, Gouri G Kishan, Devadarshini, Janagaraj and Bagavathi Perumal in supporting roles. The film’s music is composed by Govind Menon with N Shanmuga Sundaram cranking the camera and Govindraj editing it.
