She has long been known for playing the chirpy, girl-next-door who can’t contain her laughter. Hansika, who has worked alongside most stars from the south, has just signed her 50th film, which is titled Maha. If the industry grapevine is anything to go by, Maha is tipped to be a woman-centric film and that’s what got Hansika really excited.

The project and its first look poster were announced by Dhanush via a special tweet over the weekend, while also wishing Hansika on the milestone. The film was supposed to be announced on August 9 on the occasion of Hansika’s birthday but had to be postponed due to the sudden demise of former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi.

The film will be written and directed by debutant UR Jameel, a former associate of director Lakshman, who has directed films such as Romeo Juliet and Bogan. Interestingly, Hansika played the leading lady in both these projects and apparently it was on the sets of Bogan that Jameel impressed her with a one-line story.

While the poster unveiled by Dhanush reveals some of the crew, such as Ghibran for music, the rest of the cast and crew will be announced soon, we hear. The shooting is expected to commence in a few weeks.

Last seen on screen in Prabhudeva’s Gulebaghavali, Hansika has Atharvaa’s 100 and Vikram Prabhu’s Thuppakki Munai in her kitty. Last year, she made her Malayalam debut with Mohanlal’s Villain, in which she played a character with grey shades.

On working on her first Malayalam film, she had then told the Times of India, “My mom had always told me that at least once in my life, I have to do a Malayalam film. When director Unnikrishnan narrated the script of Villain to me, it had me on the edge of the seat. It was one of the best scripts I had heard this year, and that’s why I signed up.”
