The bus was carrying around 70 people, 36 of whom have been admitted to a hospital after sustaining injuries. No casualties have been reported so far.

A government bus travelling from Thallur carrying around 70 passengers met with an accident, injuring 36 people, after it collided with a bike. The bus was travelling to Thallur from Coimbatore, and was near Nadugani of Nilgiri district when the accident occured. No casualties have been reported so far.

“The driver was attempting to avoid a collision with an oncoming bike, and unable to do so, the bus ended up falling into a ditch and overturning. Thirty six people have been injured, one person has sustained grievous injuries,” said Traffic Inspector Ayyarswamy from the Nadugani station’s jurisdiction to TNM, “They’ve all been taken to hospitals nearby. Some have been taken to the nearby GH, about eight have been taken to Ooty GH.” A few of the victims were taken to a hospital in Pathiri. He also added that of the injured, 26 are women.

The bus driver, 35-year-old Jaganathan, hails from Cuddalore. The bike was driven by a 50-year-old man identified as Chandramohan.

Jaganathan was driving when he saw the oncoming two-wheeler ridden by Chandramohan. As the bike was obstructing the path, in order to avoid a collision, he attempted to go to the left, when the bus fell into a 10 foot ditch and overturned.

Chandramohan too sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital in Kerala’s Perinthalmanna.
