A 23-year-old gangrape survivor from Unnao in Uttar Pradesh was allegedly set ablaze early Thursday morning by five men, two of whom are reported to be accused in the gangrape case. The survivor had been gangraped in March and was on her way to pursue the case against the accused when she was attacked. While one of the two accused had been absconding, the other had secured bail last week, reports NDTV.

According to reports, the survivor has sustained 80 per cent burns and has been admitted to a government hospital in Lucknow in a critical condition. The incident occurred at Sindupur village under Bihar police station area in Unnao district.

After the incident on Thursday, the police told the media that the woman has named five people, and four of them have been arrested by the police.

“Four people have been arrested in connection with the case. The main accused, Shivam Trivedi, is still absconding. The victim has been referred to a hospital in Lucknow for better treatment,” the police told news agency ANI.

According to reports, the woman had filed a police complaint against two of the five men this year in March, accusing them of raping her and filming the act.

The FIR was lodged in Rae Bareli and the woman and her parents were on their way to Rae Bareli on Thursday when she was attacked.

Early on Thursday morning, at around 4 am, the five men took her outside her village and into the fields and doused her in petrol before setting her on fire.

This incident comes a week after the gangrape and murder of a veterinary doctor in Hyderabad triggered massive outrage across the country.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday targeted Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath over the incident.

"Yesterday, the home minister of the country and the Uttar Pradesh chief minister clearly lied that law and order in Uttar Pradesh has become better. Seeing such incidents every day angers the mind. BJP leaders should now stop false propaganda," Priyanka said in a tweet.
