In life, actor Srividya enthralled her audiences. But eight years after her death from spine cancer in 2006, she is now remembered for ugly allegations that her friend has tried to usurp her assets. Former Kerala Forests & Environment, Sports and Cinema minister KB Ganesh Kumar, who is the executor of Srividya’s will, has landed in controversy again. Now the late actress’ brother MLV Sankar Raman has approached Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy seeking a probe into the issue. Sankar has alleged in his complaint that Ganesh Kumar, who was also an actor, has illegally taken possession of the assets of the actress and even nine years after her death, he has done nothing to execute the will or set up the MLV Srividya Charitable Trust, as per the actress’ wish. According to the reports Srividya’s major assets were eight cents of land and a house in Chennai, Rs 15,50,000 bank deposit, 580 gram gold ornaments, 1.5kg silver, household articles, a Santro car and post office savings of Rs 3 lakh. She had also given Rs 1 lakh to her servants, Sahadevan and his wife Sidhammal and another Rs 5 lakh each to her nephews. In the first half of 2013, Sankar had alleged that Ganesh Kumar did not do anything to execute the will though as per Srividya’s will, she had wanted underprivileged children to be provided with training in dance and music after selling off her home at Vattiyoorkavu  after her demise. Later, a revelation in November 2013 by the oncologist who treated Srividya kicked off another controversy. He said in his memoirs that a trust which managed her assets had shown reluctance to bear the expenses of some costly medicines she needed.  Her doctor and Former Director of Regional Cancer Centre (RCC), Dr M Krishnan Nair, had claimed in his book that the Srividya Trust was unwilling even though doctors suggested that they would improve her condition. The trust was headed by Ganesh Kumar and his brother-in-law T Balakrishnan IAS and Social Justice Minister KM Muneer were also members of the trust earlier. Earlier asked about all these allegations, Ganesh Kumar had denied any irregularities in the trust and the actress’ asset management. “The functioning of the trust is transparent and everyone is aware of that. This could be seen only as an attempt to tarnish my image," he told media in 2013.  According to Reporter TV Sankar has alleged that the trust is just a namesake organisation and Ganesh Kumar has taken away all the assets of the trust. He has also said that Ganesh Kumar has hidden all details about her sickness from her relatives and he pretended to be her best companion, but his actual aim was to take over her assets. Raman had also reportedly mentioned in the complaint given to the CM that Kumar made Srividya sign the will when she was unconscious. Srividya, who essayed many memorable roles in various South Indian movies, died at the age of 53 on October 19, 2006.
