Sellers on Flipkart can now sell their goods to shoppers across the globe. After the ecommerce major’s partnership with eBay, products on Flipkart will be available in nearly 200 countries, according to an Economic Times report.

Flipkart recently acquired the Indian operations of eBay following an investment of $500 million by the latter. Post this, Flipkart has launched a global program to allow its sellers to sell to global customers.

Anil Goteti, who took over eBay India’s business told ET that the idea behind Flipkart’s global program is to push ‘made in India’ products to non-resident Indians. Some of the products that will be available will be saris, jewellery, handicrafts, accessories among other categories.

ET reports that Flipkart will initially start this programme for its ‘Gold’ category sellers and eventually extend it to other sellers.

"This is a large opportunity for us. We are looking to build on it with our massive seller base, the expertise of eBay India along with Flipkart’s technology and marketplace strength," Goteti told ET.

eBay has over 171 million active customers globally across 190+ international markets and Indian sellers of Flipkart will be able to access them. While customers globally will shop through eBay's platform, Flipkart will fulfill the orders in partnership with carriers.

All categories that focus on manufacturing in India will be pushed through the ‘Flipkart Global’ program.

"We want to encourage Indian manufacturing especially in categories such as jewellery, lifestyle, saris and other made in India products," Goteti told ET.

According to Navin Mistry, India business head for eBay.in, only sellers who manufacture in India can leverage the global platform with that being their unique value proposition.

Flipkart also launched its brand ‘Billion’ recently, which will be products made in India for India consumers. This too, will eventually be made available to global customers.

According to the ET report, Amazon too launched its global seller programme two years ago, which gave over 23,000 Indian sellers access to sell globally.

ET had also reported last month that Paytm Mall is set to launch cross-border shipping of Indian brands to China on its platform.
