With just a month and a half to go for assembly polls, the Captain Vijaykanth-led DMDK witnessed a first rebellion of sorts.

On Wednesday, Yuvaraj, the North Chennai District Secretary for the DMDK quit the party and joined the DMK.

“All the district secretaries wanted Vijayakanth to join DMK in the forthcoming elections. But Vijayakanth announced that he will join PWF without consulting us.  This decision of Vijayakanth has created an unrest in the party and this will be carried forward in the future,”  Yuvaraj told reporters.

This defection comes just a week after the March 23 announcement by Vijaykanth of an alliance with the Vaiko-led PWF alliance, after many twists and turns over the past few weeks.

The actor-turned-politician had held talks with the BJP and DMK extensively, before finally forging an alliance with the PWF after he was chosen as the chief ministerial candidate.
