The first-look poster of Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2, his reunion with director S Shankar after 22 years, was released early on Pongal. The poster’s focus is on the iconic ‘varma-kalai’ that was made famous in the first film. Kamal as Senapathy, a self-styled vigilante who prefers the monicker ‘Indian’, is seen blurred out in the poster. The first-look poster, however, does not reveal any more about the film.

The poster reveals that shooting will begin from January 18. With Anirudh roped in for the film’s music, cinematographer Ravi Varman will be the DoP. Indian 2 is being bankrolled by Lyca Productions. The film’s dialogues will be penned by writer Jayamohan, lyricist Kabilan Vairamuthu and Lakshmi Saravanakumar while the prequel Indian had late writer Sujatha on board.

This action drama has Jack Gill, Tadd Griffith and Peter Hein for stunt choreography and Sreekar Prasad editing it.

It was earlier revealed that actor Kajal Agarwal will play the female lead while speculations are doing the rounds that Korean icon Bae Suzy might also be a part of Indian 2.

Indian, which released in the year 1996, was directed by S Shankar and starred Kamal Haasan, Manisha Koirala and Urmila Matondkar in the lead roles with Goundamani, Senthil, Nedumudi Venu, Kasturi, Sukanya, and Crazy Mohan forming the supporting cast. AR Rahman had composed music for this venture with Surya handling the camera and B Lenin and VT Vijayan editing it.

Indian was not only a commercial success but also went on to win several awards including the National Award for Best Actor for Kamal Haasan, Best Art Direction for Thotta Tharani and Best Special Effects for ST Venky and the Tamil Nadu State Government Award for Best Film (First prize) for producer AM Rathnam and Best Actor for Kamal Haasan.
