While the Centre has been cracking down on NGOs that received foreign funding, it has come to light that documents related to NGOs’ having links with foreign agencies have gone missing from the Karnataka secretariat, reported The Times of India.Attributing his sources of information to RAW and Intelligence Bureau (IB), former speaker KR Ramesh had raised an issue in a legislature session in 2014, pertaining to NGOs in the state having links with foreign agencies and had even stated that had received Rs. 1069 crore funding since 2009.He further submitted documents to substantiate his claims to the assembly secretariat, although the documents have mysteriously vanished from its custody.According to the report, a significant portion of the documents relate to an NGO - Samaja Parivarthana Samudhaya (SPS) which is run by social activist S R Hiremath. While Hiremath said there was no harm in Centre and the state governments investigating NGOs, former assembly secretary P Omprakash refused to comment on the issue citing his retirement from service.
