Malfunctioning Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) and other technical issues delayed polling in voting booths in Karnataka in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday. A faulty EVM led to delay in voting in Horabailu village in Soraba taluk of Shivamogga district. At the time of writing, voting had not begun yet at the polling booth and officials are working to fix the issue.

A technical issue was cited as the reason for the delay in voting in Kalmane village of Shikaripura taluk of Shivamogga. Voting, which began early in the day, was halted for a while as a result of the issue.

The voting process was interrupted multiple times at booth number 28 in Urdu School at Azam Nagar in Belagavi. The EVM machine developed problems and polling has been stopped temporarily.

Polling was delayed by half an hour in booth no 136 at Udagi village in Sedam taluk in Kalaburagi district due to technical glitches.

Voting was also delayed by 35 minutes at a polling booth in Karwar after a power cut at the polling booth led to lack of visibility inside the booth.

Meanwhile, the EVM at Giants School in Hubballi was replaced after an error was spotted in the EVM mock polling. The presiding officer at the booth replaced the EVM and polling was started on time.

237 candidates are contesting in the 14 constituencies of Karnataka which are going to polls in the third and largest phase of Lok Sabha elections.

Meanwhile, in Kerala, several complaints of malfunctioning EVMs were reported. There were also reports that in a voting booth in Kovalam, the light against the BJP's symbol lit up whenever a Congress candidate was voted. This suggestion, however, was dismissed by both the District Collector and the Chief Election Officer.

EVM glitches were also reported from voting booths in Alapuzha, Chertala, and Pathanamthitta.

In Kerala, 227 candidates are contesting in 20 constituencies which are going to polls on Tuesday.
