Childline officials in Kerala have rescued a 16-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by her father and held captive in their home. The father has been arrested.
The Hindu reports that medical examination revealed that the Class 10 student was six months pregnant. The girl hadn’t attended school for a month, states the report.
Acting on a tip-off, Childline officials arrived at their residence, to find that the father was staying with his eight children in the house. The minor daughter who is pregnant, was found locked up in the house. Both his wives passed away and the family lived in the house without any social contact.
Though the father refused to let the Childline officials meet the girl, the girl was rescued with the help of the police.
The girl then told Childline officials that she was indeed impregnated by her father and that he had warned them against interacting with others. While the girl and her younger sister were sent to Nirbhaya home, two of her brothers were sent to a state home in Malappuram.
Earlier in September 2016, another 16-year-old girl was raped by her father in Wayanad district. The incident came to light after the girl's mother grew suspicious of the girl's behaviour and subjected her to a medical examination. The 48-year-old father was then arrested and booked under POCSO.
