The News Minute | December 24, 2014 | 08.43 am IST A 19-year old private engineering college student in Chennai was allegedly raped by a man dressed as a police personnel at Akkarai, off the East Coast Road. The student and her boyfriend studying second year engineering in the city were on the way to a beach in Akkarai when a man dressed in khaki and white shirt stopped them, reported The New Indian Express. Claiming that the girl’s parents were looking for her, he collected the ID cards of the couple before making the girl ride on his bike with him. On the way, the man took the girl to a secluded spot on the pretext of it being a woman police official’s residence. He tied the girl and raped her before threatening her if she complained, said the report. The boy in the meanwhile, on trying to reach her mobile reached the man who said that the girl was being interrogated. However, when he reached the police station, he found his girlfriend reaching the police station to complain about the rape. However, the report also picked up loopholes in the rape charge in the versions provided by the couple. The timings as given by the duo about the incident and the events before the incident did not match. Also, according to police no resistance was found from the girl during the alleged rape. Additionally her clothes were not crumpled. Even gaps in the story came up when CCTV footage showed a biker giving the girl a ride, but the images weren’t distinguishable, said the report. Tweet
