A couple in Andhra allegedly committed suicide killed themselves after poisoning their two minor children at their residence in East Godavari district on Sunday.

According to reports, the couple identified as U Vishnu Satyanarayana Swamy (32) and Annapurna (25), hanged themselves from a ceiling fan in Kathipudi village.

Their two daughters were reported to be 4 years old and 2 years old.

According to a PTI report, the incident came to light when Annapurna's father visited the house at around midnight on Saturday, and contacted the police when there was no response.

The police broke the door open, to find the couple hanging and the children lying on the floor.

The police suspect that business failure and financial losses drove the couple to take the extreme step.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is on.

However, this is not the first such case in the state, in recent times.

In March this year, another couple had killed themselves in Guntur district, leaving their three children orphaned.

The couple were farmers, and were left with a heavy debt due to a poor yield of their crops.

Following this, the couple consumed pesticide at their home and killed themselves.

In January, another couple had committed suicide in Guntur town, depressed over the sudden death of their son in school.

The parents had alleged that the school management did not inform them about the son’s ill-health, when he was staying in the hostel.

They alleged that no action was taken against the management of the corporate school.
