The massive earthquake that ripped apart Nepal on April 25 has left over 3,600 people dead and injured more that 6,500. Aftershocks of the quake, which were felt in several regions of northern India and also triggered avalanches around Mount Everest, has caused widespread destruction in the country. Services including transport, water, saniation and food, have been badly hit in the region and rescue operations have been continuing in full swing since Saturday. Soon after the quake, of 7.9 magnitude, hit Nepal, the government of India launched "Operation Maitri" through which it has been actively carrying out relief and rescue operations, along with evacuating Indians stranded in the region. A team of 34 Indian doctors, along with three army field hospitals, have also been sent to help in the relief and rescue operations.
