An engineering student in Telangana killed a minor girl after slitting her throat with a knife at Vinayaka Nagar Colony in Sangareddy district on Thursday .
The Bollaram police, which is investigating the case, said that the accused had been stalking the Class 10 student for the last few months.
The accused, identified as Aravind, was reported to be a third year B-Tech student at a private engineering college in Maharashtra's Nanded city.
The police said that Aravind was repeatedly stalking the minor even though she had refused his advances, and on Thursday, he entered her house.
An argument soon broke out and the accused took out a knife and slit the minor's throat. Neighbours and locals who heard the girl scream rushed to the house and nabbed the accused red-handed and rushed the minor to hospital for treatment, but doctors said that she died due to blood loss.
Following this, her body was shifted to a government-run hospital for an autopsy.
The accused was allegedly roughed up by locals before being handed over to the police. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway. The accused is presently in custody.
This is not the first such incident to be reported from Telangana this year.
In June this year, a 24-year-old woman was murdered in broad daylight after a man slit her throat in front of the Karimnagar Collectorate office in Karimnagar town in Telangana.
The accused was caught by passersby, who handed him over to the police.
In May, a 19-year-old woman was brutally murdered in public in Hyderabad's Yousufguda area.
The incident took place when the deceased, identified as Venkata Laxmi, was manning the counter at a bangle shop where she worked.
Earlier that same month, an alleged stalker attacked a 23-year-old nurse in Hyderabad with acid, for refusing his proposal.
In March this year, a stalker had set a minor girl on fire near Hyderabad’s Amberpet area following which the victim succumbed to her injuries at the state-run Gandhi Hospital.
