In a shocking incident, a 22-year-old student was hacked to death on Monday morning, in Anthinatt near Perumbavoor in Ernakulam, allegedly by a robber.

The deceased has been identified as Nimisha, the daughter of Thampi of Anthinatt at Edathikkad. She is a student of Vazhakulam MES Engineering College at Thodupuzha in Idukki.

According to information that is currently available, the murder happened during a robbery attempt at Nimisha’s residence. A robber barged into the house in broad daylight, while Nimisha, her father and her grandmother were at home.

The robber tried to make away with a gold chain from the house, and the family tried in stop him. The man then hacked Nimisha on her neck, which turned fatal.

Nimsiha’s father Thampi has also been injured in the attack.

Biju, a migrant worker who is reportedly a native of Murshidabad in West Bengal, has been arrested in connection with the crime.

According to reports, the loading workers who were working near Nimisha’s house rushed to the spot and rushed her to a hospital. But she died a few minutes after reaching the hospital.

The local residents followed the accused as he tried to run and were able to catch him.

Nimisha’s body is at the Taluk hospital in Perumbavoor. Police officials and forensic experts have reached the spot.

The police however said that they have been collecting details and so far haven’t reached any conclusion regarding the crime.
