The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has upheld complaints against 125 companies after receiving 167 complaints against various misleading ad campaigns in the month of February. Of these 73 companies were in the category of Personal and Healthcare, followed by 29 in the Education category. Here we list some of the advertisements. Idea Cellular Limited: Their IIN ad set in Haryana was considered to defame the state and bring it disrepute. Further, their service is shown to be a substitute to formal education.  Video of TgUhZl9ZPVA Kellogg (India): Kellogg’s Special K advertisement for the two week challenge does not state the specifics of the diet plan and thus has omitted important facts. Also the disclaimers did not follow the rules of being shown on the screen for the necessary 12 seconds, being legible and being in the same language as the advertisement.  Video of SVJzQ4s0fSA Dabur India Limited: Dabur Chyawanprash made unsubstantiated claims in their ad that they give three times more immunity which makes kids strong from within.  Video of FQhRerXYQpk  Cordlife Sciences India Pvt. Ltd.: The advertisement violates The National Guidelines for Stem Cell Research 2013 by claiming that a baby’s umbilical cord protects them from over 80 life threatening diseases. The National Apex Committee for Stem Cell Research and Therapy (NAC-SCRT) has banned advertising stem cell based therapies.  Video of SRzsZyxsQxw Bharti AXA Life Insurance Company Limited: The ad doesn’t mention that their claim of “Cost just Rs.12/- per day” is applicable only for people below 35 years. Thus it is ambiguous and misleading.  Video of KuNQTVLuTzw GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare Ltd: The Horlicks ad suggests that consumption of Horlicks during exam time will enhance concentration. But it is doesn’t mention that it has to be consumed for a period of time to be effective.  Video of G84yF_Ax59Q Tata Chemicals Limited: The ad for Tata Swach Silver RO Purifier claims that the germ destroyer silver action will increase the life of the purifier. This, again, is an unsubstantiated claim.  Video of v8csxyBATdM Bennett Coleman & Co Ltd: A TIMESPRO ad claims “Begin your banking career at an annual salary of up to Rs. 3.5 lakhs” and “so far, TIMESPRO students have been placed at India’s leading banks like Ing Vysya Bank, IndusInd Bank, Kotak Bank, Yes Bank and many more”. These claims have not been substantiated by the company.
