Game of Thrones fans across the world have been disappointed that season 7 of the series will not come in April like usual, but on July 16. That’s over two months added to the already agonisingly long wait.

But what if we were to tell you that this time, there’s something more to look forward to? Perhaps the appearance of a certain British singer who has sung the hit Shape of You?

Yep, Ed Sheeran will have a cameo in the upcoming Game of Thrones season!

Now, you might wonder what the sweet and goofy singer will do in an intense and violent series? On that note, your guess is as good as ours. But this is isn’t the first time that a celebrity from the music world has appeared on the show.

Surprised?

The Vanity Fair article which Sheeran shared on social media confirming his appearance on Game of Thrones also mentions that members of Coldplay, Mastodon, Of Monsters and Men, and Sigur Rós have been roped in for the series before.

The makers, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, had been trying to get Sheeran for the show for years as a surprise for Maisie Williams, who plays the role of Arya Stark. Williams is a huge fan of the singer.

This year, Weiss and Benioff finally convinced Sheeran and the wait to July just got a little more agonising!

There was another big confirmation as well. Not only will season 8 be the final one for Game of Thrones, it will also be shorter, with just six episodes.

And while that makes us sad, the show’s makers are known to run a tight series with gripping plots, so it may not be a bad thing entirely. The final season is expected to release some time in 2018.
