The Election Commission on Wednesday announced that a four-member committee will be constituted to look into the large-scale distribution and seizure of cash and gifts in the electoral constituencies of Aravakurichi and Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu.

The four-member committee will include a general observer, an expenditure observer, police observer and an additional officer, said the press release by Central Election Commission. The committee is expected to investigate and file the report to the EC on or before 19th May (Thursday).

According to the release, additional security teams will be deployed in these constituencies to monitor situation in Aravakurichi and Thanjavur to ensure free and fair elections and will be in place by Wednesday evening.

 The EC deferred the polls in Thanjavur, hours before the scheduled election, on May 16th. The elections in Aracvakurichi constituency was deferred on May 14th over complaints of cash distribution.

The assembly elections in these two constituencies will be held on 23rd May and the results will be announced on May 25th.
