The latest trend in Mollywood has to be sequels with the release of movies like Punyalan Private Limited, the second part of Punyalan Agarbathis, and the sequel to Mamooty's Big B which has been announced.

Now, Dulquer Salmaan's 2012 crime thriller Theevram, written and directed by debutant Roopesh Peethambaran, will be getting a sequel.

Confirming the news through his Facebook page, Roopesh had written, “5 yrs of Theevram! Will there be a sequel for Theevram?? Will happen in 2019 with a new star cast ;) (sic)” he wrote.

Director Roopesh revealed that the sequel to Theevram will be made with a fresh star cast. So, it seems like Dulquer Salmaan won't be a part of this sequel. The film marked the directorial debut of Roopesh, who had earlier acted in the film Spadikam. The movie, which had a tepid run at the box office, had Dulquer played an aspiring young musician named Harshvardhan who wants to enter the film industry. He becomes a sadistic killer after his wife is murdered. The film is about his outburst he's when pushed into a corner.

The movie also starred Shikha Nair, Sreenivasan, Vishnu Raghav, Riya Saira, Vinay Forrt and Anu Mohan in significant roles. The film was dubbed into Telugu as Jathaga and in Tamil as Aaththiram respectively.

Earlier, director Roopesh had accused producer V S Ismail of dubbing the film without his permission. As per the director, they had ruined the film due to this inferior dubbing. The producer dismissed his claims saying that no rule demanded that he get his permission for dubbing. Also, the producer pointed out he had only sold the dubbing rights for 1 lakh rupees and that Roopesh could have claimed rights if it was about a remake.
